Nonlethal PowerPoint presentations

PowerPoint presentations are often boring, and boring presentations are not effective tools for communication. I’ll pass along the recommendation of my associate program director to check out this great little talk by David Phillips on how to avoid death by PowerPoint. There are five principles that he discusses in his talk:

  1. One message per slide
    • More slides is okay!
  2. Short, high-yield phrases
    • No sentences!
  3. Content >> heading
  4. Attention must be focused
    • Color contrast and font size to guide attention
      • Dark background, bright text
  5. Five elements per slide, max
    • I stick to 3-4 elements

To help you save time becoming a better presenter, I put together a simple PowerPoint template that uses these five principles. Hope you find it useful. Enjoy!
